One of the biggest storylines of the college football season last year was the Florida State Seminoles being left out of the College Football Playoff after an undefeated regular season record. At the time, there was plenty of outrage about the decision. But SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is seemingly not overly upset with the decision.
The final CFP spot came down to Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State. And each team had a somewhat valid argument.
Alabama was coming off an SEC Championship victory over Georgia. Georgia had looked like the best team in college football throughout much of the season before losing to Alabama in said SEC Championship game. And Florida State had an undefeated record throughout the year, albeit against a weaker strength of opposition in the ACC.
The spot ended up going to the Crimson Tide. And quickly, the Florida State Seminoles were openly frustrated about the decision.
However, Greg Sankey doesn’t feel like Florida State has a right to be upset with the decision. During an appearance on 1010 XL, a radio station in Jacksonville, Florida, Sankey fired a shot at FSU, saying that Georgia even perhaps had a better argument to be in over them.
“Georgia was one of the best four teams and didn’t get in (the Playoff),” said Sankey, which was transcribed by Matt Hayes of Saturday Down South on X. “But you didn’t see us jumping up and down and complaining and hanging national championship banners.”
SEC commish Greg Sankey on @1010XL: "Georgia was one of the best four teams (in the nation) and didn't get in (the Playoff). But you didn't see us jumping up and down and complaning and hanging national championship banners."
A not so subtle shot at FSU.

There is a real argument to be made here from Sankey. Again, the only blemish on Georgia’s record was in the SEC Championship, a far tougher test than Florida State’s ACC Championship matchup.
Still, it is a bit of an unnecessary shot from Sankey here toward Florida State, who obviously seems to still have some hard feelings about their snub.
