Legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick parted ways with the New England Patriots this offseason, leaving him without a job for the first time in over two decades. And his son Steve Belichick made sure to poke some fun about this during his introductory press conference for his new job on Wednesday.
Steve Belichick served under his father in a number of different roles in New England from 2012-2023. Now that his dad is no longer coaching at the NFL level, he opted to attempt to make it out on his own at the collegiate level, taking a defensive coordinator job for the University of Washington.
Belichick was asked by a reporter during his introductory presser on Wednesday what the differences were in his coaching style compared to his father’s. And he hilariously pointed out the one big difference. He has a job and his father currently does not.
“Nah man, we definitely have similarities. I have a job and he doesn’t,” said Belichick to the crowd which generated some laughs. “But yeah, I look up to my dad. He’s a mentor to me, but I am myself. Excited to get out on the field and work with these kids and recruit kids. Just gonna be myself, I’m not gonna try and be him.”

One big difference Steve didn’t mention is seemingly a much more jovial sense of humor than his father. But hopefully, his dad even got a good laugh from that nice burn.
