Shannon Szabados of the Columbus (GA) Cottonmouths became the first woman to ever register a shutout in men’s professional hockey, with a 3-0 win over the Huntsville Havoc on Saturday night in the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League).

The 29-year-old goaltender stopped 33 Huntsville shots to make history.

It’s certainly not the first remarkable achievement for Szabados, as she’s also been a two-time Olympic gold medalist for the Canadian women’s team (Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi in 2014).

The Edmonton native is playing her second full season with Columbus, putting together a record of 18-16-4, a 3.29 goals-against average, and .907 save percentage over that time.
