Despite the offseason departures of manager Craig Counsell and pitchers Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff, the Milwaukee Brewers have been one of the National League’s best teams through the first half of the season.

One of the biggest reasons for Milwaukee’s success has been the emergence of multiple young players, including outfielder Jackson Chourio.

Chourio plays all three outfield positions and has hit eight home runs and driven in 28 runs. At just 20 years old, the future seems incredibly bright for the rookie.

In Wednesday’s 6-5 victory over the Texas Rangers, Chourio made the most exciting play of his short MLB career so far, sending a line drive to centerfield which Rangers outfielder Derek Hill dove and missed, sending the ball all the way to the wall. By the time the Rangers got it back in the infield, Chourio had circled the bases for Milwaukee’s first inside-the-park home run since Christian Yelich hit one in 2020 against the White Sox.

According to Elias, Chourio is the youngest player to hit an inside-the-park homer since Ken Griffey Jr. on May 21, 1989, for the Seattle Mariners against the New York Yankees, when Griffey was 19 years, 181 days old.

The win extended Milwaukee’s NL Central lead to a robust six-and-a-half games over the St. Louis Cardinals and established a new high-water mark for the season. The Brewers are now 15 games over .500 at 48-33.

Social media was ecstatic over Chourio’s mad dash.
