Barry Sanders and Oklahoma State are two things that go together just about as well as anything in the history of college football. They may just go together once again.
Barry J. Sanders, son of the Pro Football Hall of Famer, has received his release to transfer from the Stanford Cardinal and is apparently “seriously considering” going to Oklahoma State, though he has not actually spoken to the school yet.
“That’s definitely an option,” Sanders said. “I have not been in contact with those guys yet, but I would like to see what they have to offer. Hopefully we can find some common ground.”
Sanders, a four-star recruit out of Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma, originally chose Stanford over Oklahoma State in 2012, saying that “he wanted to make his own name.” He never quite made the impact he wanted to with the Cardinal, rushing for 315 yards in both his junior and senior seasons and collecting five touchdowns over his college career.
His father amassed 2,850 yards and 42 touchdowns in his junior season at Oklahoma State en route to the Heisman Trophy. The elder Sanders left for the NFL where he became a legend for the Detroit Lions.
The younger Sanders says he has no regrets about choosing Stanford. “For the time being it was exactly what I wanted to do. I actually always wanted to come to school out here.” He graduated in June and would like to fulfill his last year of eligibility, even if its outside of the Pac-12.
“Stanford is the best team in the conference,” he said. “It wouldn’t make sense to go within the conference.”
