Fancy marriage proposals have become quite a thing among the Seattle Seahawks in recent months. Richard Sherman, for instance, popped the question in Maui. So linebacker K.J. Wright had to come up with something original and did just that on Tuesday.

Wright dropped to a knee and proposed to his girlfriend during a tour of the Boeing airplane factor, in front of a giant plane, with flowers and proper safety goggles.

Wright told Seahawks.com he wanted to be creative and not copy teammate DeShawn Shead, who proposed to his girlfriend in September on the field after a win versus the Denver Broncos.

“Nope, not at all,” Wright said from his locker at Renton’s Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Wednesday. “I didn’t want to be a copycat.”

Wright’s proposal came at the Boeing factory in Everett, where Wright, Natalie, and Natalie’s father were able to tour the facility. It was an event Wright said he was “very nervous” about and one that he’s been planning for “about a month.”

“It was a big surprise,” Wright said. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while.”

Bonus points to Wright for creativity, as I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of someone pulling off a similar proposal. Wright told the Seattle Times‘ Bob Condotta that he wanted to incorporate airplanes into the proposal somehow, because his girlfriend’s father is an aficionado. His original idea of flying a banner to propose fell through. But putting the question on the side of a Boeing aircraft worked out just fine.

Wright had been planning the proposal for about a month and didn’t realize he was popping the question on the same day Pro Bowl selections were announced. He was snubbed in the vote by fans, players and coaches, but probably isn’t too upset about that now.
