The Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild put their names in the NHL history books Tuesday night by combining to score two goals in two seconds. The craziness occurred late in the third period as the Wild held a 3-1 lead.

First, Nick Foligno scored to bring the Blue Jackets within one goal at 19:44.

Two seconds later, the Wild added an empty net goal through Mikael Granlund at 19:46.

It’s pretty crazy that Granlund was able to push the puck forward and into the net in just two seconds.

Realistically, this is a record which should be impossible to break. Things need to happen perfectly just for two teams to score twice in two seconds and it’s not even realistic for a puck to be dropped and pushed past the goal line within one second.

This unreal sequence ties an NHL record which was previously held by the St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins. Back on December 19th, 1987, Ken Linseman scored for the Bruins at 19:50 of the third period. Doug Gilmour answered for the Blues at 19:52. Technically the Blue Jackets and Wild scored two in 1.7 seconds, but the NHL history book doesn’t track fractions, so this will officially be recorded as two goals in two seconds.

Oh and Minnesota won the game, 4-2.
