The 2015-16 season started off so well for the Montreal Canadiens before going off the rails in a hurry. Now sitting eight points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the rest of the year looks pretty bleak. On Sunday, things took an odd turn for the Canadiens as star defenseman PK Subban reportedly hit a one-month old baby with a hockey puck following an open practice.

After the Provigo Habs public practice on Sunday at the Bell Centre, Subban, along with several other Canadiens, threw pucks and other assorted souvenirs into the crowd. This is a customary practice that isn’t out of the ordinary.

According to the National Post, one of the pucks tossed by Subban hit a month-old baby in the head, giving her a concussion.

“At the end, the players took the time to throw pucks at their young fans,” the child’s mother Valérie Meloche wrote on Facebook.

“Unfortunately, one of the fans who caught a puck thrown by P.K. Subban was just a month old — and she caught it with her head.”

This was obviously an accident, but isn’t the type of story the Canadiens need in the news right now. “Star player concusses one-month old”? Yowch.

The 26-year old Subban leads Montreal with 46 points this year, and is fourth in the league among all defensemen in scoring. He won the Norris Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s top defenseman, in the 2012-13 season. He’s also very involved in the Montreal community, as this Christmas-time video of him at a local children’s hospital attests to.
